I want to buy a landscape rake for my tractor for raking small limbs, the horse pasture, and dirt after I have spread it. I have never used a landscape rake before, and I am curious how well they work.

I have only used mine for maintaing my rock drive and leveling soil. In my opinion its useless for my task's without gage wheels. I purchased a Landpride LR72" rake. Its nice but a little $$.Once I installed my gage wheels i find it a very usefull piece of equipment that i would definately purchase again. ....

What kind of tractor do you have? If you have a sub-CUT such as a Kubota BX model, make sure you purchase one especially made for a sub-CUT...if you don't you will not get enough clearance when the 3pt is fully raised.
A landscape rake can be a very useful tool to rake debris and even to move and shape dirt to desired look.

A landscape rake without gauge wheels is not very useful. When used for dressing the shoulders of a gravel driveway, after a winter of snowplowing, the tilt and height adjustments, using the gauge wheels, enable you to keep from ripping up sod or gouging into the lawn.
Also, you do not need to depend on the 3 point to maintain the proper height for the rake and unless you have a separate hydraulic tilt control on the 3 point, you cannot maintain a good angle or slope for the shoulders. The gauge wheel adjustments allow you to do that. ....

BVance brings up a good point...
Unlike the larger B, L, M series tractors from Kubota, the BX series has what Kubota refers to as a "limited category 1 3pt hitch".
Wondering what that was, I found out that the lift of the lower lift arms will only allow for a limited height of lift, thereby calling a limited category 1, 3pt lift.
Where the problem comes in, is when you have implements that have a taller draw to them, and will not allow sufficient lift for clearance. This is made more evident and exaggerated, as the BX units have a low clearance, with small diameter tires to start with.
Be mindful if your tractor falls into this category.

I have a BX23. I bought a rake with gage wheels after trying unsuccessfully to use a back blade for smoothing and leveling dirt. The rake works great, but the wheels are a must. I replaced the non-adjustable lift arm on my 3pt hitch with a second adjustable one. Now I can shorten both and get adequite clearance for implements. I notice that the new BX24 hitch is higher to begin with. ....

I'm sure that the gage wheels are useful if you are a contractor or maintain driveways. It may also depend on the size and weight of the rake. I have found that the 7 foot rake (without gage wheels) is fine for for leveling, smoothing, and dressing raw soil into lawn around my little 2 acre property.
Maybe my rake follows contours well because it is wide and weighty. I had originally wanted a "York" rake with all the options - which would have been very expensive. Some local farmers told me this would suffice. I am pleased with the performance given that it only cost me a few hundred dollars. ....

Lawnking--The 5ft Landpride is the rake I am intrested in. Talking to the dealer the other day, I discovered that along with the gauge wheels, I get a blade that mounts to the front side of the rake to be used for spreading dirt and leveling. Did your rake come with this? If so, how does it work? ....

Johnny1, the 1560 is a real nice rake, well built & easy to operate.I did not buy the flip down grader blade for my rake, i suppose it would work for very light duty, keeping in mind that the tines of the rake support the grader blade, and they are fairly flexible! Personally i prefer a front blade for grading, at present i dont own one, i sold my front blade & snowblower as they wouldn't fit my B3030. ....
